Chapter 12 The Food Police — No Protection At All
The government solution to a problem is usually as bad as the problem. - Milton Friedman
Those empowered to be the Food Police — the FDA, the ADA, the USD A, and even your MD —are actually dictating from a bully pulpit. The media in the previous chapter continue to promote their government and paid advertisers. |
| They died because of poor diabetic care and medication; they died because current insulins are dangerous. Umm...didn't I see Lilly among the corporations who advertise on Fox News?
Rush Limbaugh attacks liberals with a vengeance. If they happen to be a liberal Bimbo or Barbie with press credentials, that's an even better target. Why don't you start attacking the real threats to democracy and freedom — your favorite drug companies. Your experience with oxycontin and its addictive nature should have taught you something about the priorities of pharmaceuticals. |
The work I will describe in the following chapters confirms that sustained nutrition changes and, when necessary, low doses of cholesterol-reducing medication will offer maximum protection from vascular disease. Anyone who follows the program faithfully will almost certainly see no further progression of disease, and will very likely find that it selectively regresses. And the corollary, overwhelmingly supported by global population studies, is that persons without the disease who adopt these same dietary changes will never develop heart disease. |
It is amazing -- sometimes the animal is so sick that he can't do a medication anymore, so the vet says, "He can't tolerate this, so let's put him to sleep." That is the perfect animal for us.
We take them in, they're not on any medications, and we can quickly detoxify them of the poisons that were in their body. We put them on the Mega Daily and the Super C. We also put them on a garlic product called Garlic Daily Aid. These are what we call the foundation products of the lifestyle process. These three products are all the body needs to grow really strong and really healthy. |
| Chronic disease sufferers, who require daily medication, spend vastly more money in pharmacies than their unaffected peers.
• The introduction of blood monitors and testing strips in the mid-1980s increased the gross diabetic profits of pharmacies by 40% —a huge increase, precipitated by diabetics alone.
Pharmacists are more likely today to be business appendages, part of a large corporation who deals not only in pharmaceuticals. |

| Know your symptoms, what medication you have been prescribed, your asthma history, and lung capacity as measured by a peak flow meter. Keep a diary on the state of your asthma and regularly relay this information to a medical practitioner to ensure that you both monitor your asthma.
Second stage
Ensure you achieve the best lung function you can. Do not underestimate the importance of Controlled Pattern Breathing, exercise and diet.
Third stage
Try to identify what triggers your asthma attacks and where possible avoid them.
Fourth stage
Develop the best programme you can to reduce asthma. |
| She is reluctant to take strong medication and her condition is such that future treatment for her is limited. Jan wears a magnet-impregnated backbrace which is giving her more pain relief than anything else she has tried.
MAGNETIC THERAPY AND ASTHMA
For asthma and respiratory disorders, magnets are usually placed on acupuncture points on the sternum and along the spine. |
Before long, my blood cholesterol was 119 mg/dL—without the use of any cholesterol-lowering medication. This was especially reassuring, since my late father, who had his first heart attack at age forty-three, had a total cholesterol as high as 300 mg/dL.
I was convinced that I could help others achieve similar results, and that the effects on their health would be nothing short of dramatic.

Seeking the Cure
In 1985, William Sheldon, chief of the Department of Cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic, graciously granted my request to attend a departmental meeting. |
| Figure 15 Coronary angiograms of the right coronary artery before (left arrow) and then showing 30 percent improvement (right arrow) after approximately 60 months of a plant-based diet and cholesterol-lowering medication.
3. You must eat out in a restaurant. Restaurants can be lethal if you don't think ahead. It is a good idea to get to know several in your area that already provide or are willing to fix a "safe" meal that you will enjoy. If you must eat in an unfamiliar restaurant, try calling the chef or maitre d' a few hours in advance—even sooner, if you have a chance. |
| I set a clear goal: achieving total cholesterol in my patients of less than 150 mg/dL using a plant-based diet and cholesterol-lowering medication. The emphasis was on absolute adherence to my nutritional program, which I reinforced through my interviews with patients and my reviews of their diet diaries every two weeks for the first five years, every four weeks for the second five years, and every twelve weeks for the last two years of the study. All of the participants in my research were severely ill, with disease in all three-coronary arteries. |
Asthma attacks must always be treated promptly with prescribed medication.
STATUS ASTHMATICUS
This is a medical term meaning a very severe and prolonged asthma attack. There is extreme difficulty in breathing and exhaustion and collapse may follow. Hospitalisation is more often than not necessary and close monitoring is required. Status asthmaticus is life-threatening.
Never ignore an asthma attack in the hope that it will go away by itself. Status asthmaticus may well be the result.
CHROMIC ASTHMA
Asthma affects people in different ways. |
| A patient is more likely to complain to his pharmacist than to his doctor about the actions/reactions caused by a newly introduced medication. As a front-line observer, the pharmacist holds a unique position to witness any shortcomings or dangers presented by a particular drug, and is well-situated to report to doctors, drug makers, and/or the FDA any complaints he learns of from patients.
Why doesn't the pharmacist serve as the first line of defense against dangerous drugs? Why doesn't he/she report to doctors, drug makers, or the FDA? Because he/she isn't required to? |
Have trouble maintaining an erection without medication (men only)?
• Engage in little or no physical activity on most days?
• Have facial hair, plus difficulty in conceiving (women only)?
• Need to urinate frequently?
• Feel that your mouth is often dry?
3. Medical Clues
Do you
• Have elevated fasting glucose (above 90 mg/dl)?
• Have elevated fasting insulin (above 10 mcIU/ml)?
• Have high total cholesterol or LDL cholesterol?
• Have high triglyceride levels?
• Have high C-reactive protein (CRP) levels?
• Take a drug to reduce your blood-sugar levels? |
This can happen long before you swallow your first dose of nutrient-depleting medication.

My old Siamese, Ben, had been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism shortly before Christmas and was on drugs to control this disease plus another medication to lower his heart rate. Shortly after being on the drugs Ben became inactive, ate very little, and vomited at least twice a day. His weight dropped and after numerous visits to the vet we finally decided to take him off the drugs. Even this did not seem to work.
One morning when I returned home from shopping my son told me that Ben had thrown up the catnip I had fed him. However, I had not given Ben or the other cats any catnip. |
| A per could end up on medication for the rest of his or her life because the veterinarian diagnosed rhe problem based on the symptoms.
If your pet is experiencing seizures there are a couple of rhings you might do. First, if you are feeding commercial foods, check the label to see if it contains textured protein, yeast extract, hydrolyzed protein, glutamic acid, gelatin, or sodium or calcium caseinate. These substances always contain MSG. |
If you swallow your medication (as opposed to inhaling it, injecting it, or applying it to skin or mucous membranes), it's broken down in your gastrointestinal tract, just like the food you eat. It is then absorbed into tiny blood vessels (capillaries) that line your intestines, and ends up in a large vein that carries that blood to the liver. Here it's broken down by enzymes into harmless end products. The newly altered drug molecules pass out of the liver and are eventually distributed by the circulation throughout the body, where it does its job. |
| If you don't feel like yourself while on statins, don't let anyone tell you that it couldn't possibly be the effects of the medication. It could be, and it's worth consulting with your doctor about stopping the drug temporarily or at least lowering the dose to see whether it helps.
In short, CoQ10:
• Is required for the transformation of carbohydrate and fat into energy at the cellular level; this happens in the many tiny mitochondria (energy-producing "factories")- There are hundreds of mitochondria in each heart muscle cell. |
| You may be a relative or other caregiver who is in charge of administering the medication, and you want to do the best for your loved one (or charge), rather than contributing unknowingly to making their condition worse. By learning about drug side effects and nutrient depletions, you'll have the tools to best approach the issue, whether treating yourself or someone else. |
Otherwise, they may grow up imbalanced and require medication."
The medications used to treat Television Deficiency Disorder have, coincidentally, just been approved by the Fraud and Drug Administration. Manufactured by ConPhuzer, a Big Pharma giant, the drugs are stimulant amphetamines similar to those prescribed for ADHD, but with much higher potency. "These drugs put children in a quiet, receptive state where they can sit in front of the television for hours and soak up all the programming they need," explained Dr. Tennah. "They're miracle drugs. |
Teitelbaum: In about six weeks, you'll go to your doctor, tell him your pain's much better, and they'll probably be able to take you off that medication that may kill you.
Mike: It sounds like you a have a wealth of information in your book and on your website. We've been talking here with Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, M.D., and author of "Pain Free 1-2-3," also formulator and advisor of a number of Enzymatic Therapy products. This is good advice. Well, thank you, Jacob. It's been a real pleasure.
Teitelbaum: It's been a pleasure for me as well. |
He is in charge of the problems in medicine that nobody wants to admit exist—mistakes in medication or surgery that can kill or sicken people. The practice of oncology has changed but not as much as it needs to, since the old killing paradigm still has a stronger grip on cancer medicine than it should.
Tuckfelt looks back wistfully. "Of all those chipping away at the big rock, a small number were really searching for the plane of cleavage in order to open the rock and find the diamonds. Progress in that kind of research is very unpredictable. |
Political elections are won on rehearsed sound bites and acting skills, TV news has devolved into a violence-dominated ratings game hosted by supermodels with surgically-enhanced lips, and the population is so drugged up on medication that they can't think straight, drive straight or even vote straight. In fact, I think Idiocracy is overly optimistic about the future of western culture: I think it will only take a hundred years, not five hundred, to reach the level of widespread stupidity depicted in the film. Sometimes I think we're half-way there already. |
Keep your blood pressure out of the danger range (systolic pressure above 140 and diastolic above 90) using any means available-through diet, exercise, and medication, if necessary. This is a concern to the nearly one in three adults with high blood pressure. Here's the incentive: People with blood pressure of less than 120/80 mm Hg have about half the lifetime risk of stroke, compared with those who have hypertension, according to the AHA's "Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics?006 Update."
5. Keep blood sugar under control. |
By the time the FDA is done with this country, we'll all be eating medication for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Action reminders:
1. Lodge a complaint with the FDA by clicking here. MAKE SURE you include the docket number 2006D-0480. But don't trust this to be enough. The FDA will probably simply delete half the complaints it receives, so don't trust your complaint to actually count. It's important to continue...
2. Send a strongly-worded letter to your representatives in Washington. Be sure to cite Docket No. 2006D-0480. |
Her family physician started her on hormone-replacement therapy and blood pressure medication.
Lab tests foretold future problems: elevated cholesterol and triglycerides, and a prediabetic glucose level of 111 mg/dl. Tests also found her to have low levels of magnesium, a mineral involved in glucose and cholesterol metabolism.
Liz started to take some supplements, including magnesium and calcium, and also began to walk two miles each day. She soon lost ten pounds but then inexplicably started to gain weight. |
| Most doctors will order a potassium level (often included in multiple-chemistry screening
Supplement-Drug Interactions
If you're taking any drug, including metformin or insulin, to control your blood sugar, you should be aware that either dietary improvements or nutritional supplements will likely lower your medication requirements. That's actually good because every physician knows patients are better off when they take less medicine. |
| Please do not make changes in your medication without consulting your physician. panels) to confirm their hunch. If the patient's potassium is low, the doctor will typically prescribe a supplement in doses greater than the recommended daily allowance in order to correct the deficiency. Although potassium is indeed a nutrient, most doctors are not taught to think of it as such. Hence, they do not think that they are practicing nutritional medicine when they test for and treat potassium deficiency. |
| Moderate physical activity complements good eating habits and is much safer than any medication.
• Physical activity lowers blood-sugar levels. There's no question that greater physical activity improves blood-sugar levels, and the types of activities do not have to be strenuous. Many studies have shown that just going for a daily walk can lower blood-sugar, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels. One study found impressive benefits in both blood sugar and insulin after a single seventy-five-minute walk.
• Physical activity lowers insulin levels. |
